Hi guys, As I haven't replaced my elastics for a long time I thought it was time to change them and have decided to use Hydrolastic. On the premise that if it is good enough for Will Raison then it must be good enough for me Anyway a few questions for the pole guru's amongst you. I will only be using it on my top 2's, sticking with soid on my light match top 3 I think, unless you know better of course. 1. Do you cut Hydrolastic to length like normal or hollow elastic? Surely the fluid would leak out? 2. How do I connect the line to the Hydro, dacron or stonfo? 3. Do I need to use a special PTFE Bush or will the normal internals do the job, I notice it is a bit thicker than solid elastic? 4. Should I bottom the elastic out to pre stretch it like I would with a solid elastic. Thanks guys, ruddyuseless

What I do is
1. When I cut the hydro to length I leave a bit extra and make sure a knot is tied in the hydro and then you can cut the hydro above the knot so you loose no fluid , although just recently there seems to be very little fluid in .
2. I always use Dacron Connectors .
3. I use a normal ptfe Bush
4. I don,t think there is any need to bottom Hydro out but out of habit I give it a half hearted tug .
Thats my take but I,m sure our experts will advise

Hi mate, hydro is dead easy to work with.To answer your questions. For me the best way to fit it is as follows.thread the hydro down your kit from the bush end, hydro is heavy so no need for an elastic threader, also when supplied hydro has a simple single overhand knot tied at either end which is small enough to thread through bush, pulla bung, etc.I use the Preston Dacron connectors which fit onto the elastic without tying a knot, the Dacron simply grips onto the not already tied on the hydro, sounds complicated but it shows you how to do this on the packets of the connectors,at the bung end I use the crows foot method of tying the knot which stops the elastic pulling through the bung.Ive found it is best to re-tension the elastic after using once or twice.hope this helps mate,I can always show you on next match we fish.im sure others will use different methods, knots etc,but this way works for me.
